Argo Navis

A large constellation of the southern sky, representing the ship of Jason and the Argonauts, listed by Ptolemy (c. AD 140). Its excessive size led to difficulties for astronomers and it is no longer recognized officially. Stars that formerly made up Argo are now assigned to three separate constellations: Carina (The Keel), Puppis (The Stern or Poop) and Vela (The Sails).
